My first introduction to publishing was for a small African studies publisher in Oxford organising the Zimbabwe International Book Fair and Noma award for publishing in Africa from there I moved to Macmillan in Basingstoke, working firstly on the Collier Macmillan lists and then the infamous international education market. When Heinemann Education relocated to Oxford from London I moved from Basingstoke and got to work on the African and Caribbean Writers Series and look after the far flung markets of USA , Australia and Far East as well as control the Rights division of the business which was now part of Reed Elsevier. I met my husband Martin in Oxford and in 1997 we decided to leave corporate life and take over the small but perfectly formed art and craft publishing business his mother had started in 1970 down in Tunbridge Wells. After a few tricky years wondering if the business would support both of us, our marriage and our little daughter, Search Press flourished and is now the world leader in arts and crafts publishing and very proud after 50 years to be 100% independent and 100% family owned.
