Editorial Project Manager
EDITORIAL PROJECT MANAGER
We are looking for an experienced, organised and enthusiastic editor to work on our thriving list, taking a variety of titles from manuscript to publication, briefing authors, freelancers, illustrators and in-house colleagues. Adlard Coles is the world’s largest nautical publisher, and an imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing Plc. We publish books for all levels of expertise and on all topics of interest, from invaluable almanacs, cruising guides and instruction books to stunning large-format photographic collections.
•Take direct responsibility for a range of titles from handover of manuscript by the commissioning editor through to publication
•In conjunction with the Publisher, have general responsibility for the editorial schedules of all titles in production, ensuring that titles are distributed sensibly between Project Editors and that adjustments are made if necessary
•Copy editing and proofreading, either in-house or via briefing and managing freelancers∙
•Maintaining schedules for own projects and taking titles through to publication∙
•Briefing in-house and freelance designers and illustrators on cover designs, text designs and specific artwork projects∙
• Checking all page proofs for layout and content.
•Liaising with authors and proof readers, collating comments and ensuring final files are ready for press, on schedule and within budget∙
•Using, maintaining and updating company-wide data management and digital asset management systems relating to all our titles∙
•Writing cover copy and assisting Marketing where necessary in the promotion of all titles∙
•Working with Rights department to gather materials for foreign editions∙
•Preparing sample spreads for use at book fairs, sales conferences and industry events
Skills, knowledge, experience
•Minimum two years’ project editor experience∙
•The ability to prioritise a demanding and varied workload, with different deadlines and levels of importance∙
•Meticulous attention to detail∙ Excellent copy editing and proofreading skills, and a good eye for design∙
•Experience in budget management∙
•Experience of InDesign desirable, and a working knowledge of Biblio and Photoshop an advantage∙
•The ability to write strong sales copy and blurbs∙
•Some sailing knowledge/interest is a bonus, though not essential
This is a full-time permanent position, based at our Bloomsbury offices at Kemp House, Chawley Park, Cumnor Hill, Oxford, OX2 9PH, UK.
