Project Editor (maternity cover) -
Adult Special Interest Division
Maternity Cover from March 2019 - for a minimum of 6 months
The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced, organised and enthusiastic editor to work on our thriving list, taking a variety of titles from manuscript to publication. Adlard Coles is the world’s largest nautical publisher, and an imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing Plc. We publish books for all levels of expertise and on all topics of interest, from invaluable almanacs, cruising guides and instruction books to stunning large-format photographic collections.
The role
∙ Take responsibility for a range of titles from handover of manuscript by the commissioning editor through to publication ∙ Be responsible for briefing the copyeditor, designer, proofreader, indexer, illustrator/photographer and work with them and the author to ensure the highest quality of text and design, and that the book runs to schedule and on budget ∙ Liaise with the author, design, production, marketing, sales and other parts of the company as necessary ∙ Write cover and marketing copy as required ∙ Brief and check the ebook editions ∙ Keep the Bloomsbury database updated – we use Biblio as our central record for all titles
Skills, knowledge, experience
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
Solid experience managing colour and mono titles through the publication process from unedited manuscript to press-ready files
Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills, and a good eye for design
Experience of InDesign desirable, and a working knowledge of Biblio and Photoshop an advantage
The ability to work well with others, mixing charm and assertiveness as necessary
The ability to prioritise a demanding and varied workload, with different deadlines and levels of importance
This is a full-time maternity cover position, based at our Bloomsbury offices in Oxford: at Kemp House, Chawley Park, Cumnor Hill, Oxford, OX2 9PH, UK.
