Editorial Assistant – Adult Non-Fiction
The Opportunity
Bloomsbury Publishing Plc is a leading international publisher with strengths in trade, children’s, professional and academic publishing, both digitally and in print.
We are currently looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking Editorial Assistant to provide support to the Publishing Director for Bloomsbury Publishing Ventures, part of our Adult Pdivision. The successful candidate will be working on both large, illustrated arts books as well as narrative text titles across a variety of imprints, including Bloomsbury Caraval, Herbert Press, Philip Wilson Publishing and Tauris Parke.
This is an excellent opportunity to learn firsthand about a broad range of activities across the publishing business, particularly in relation to highly visual titles, and develop the key skills required for a career in publishing. The successful candidate will join a friendly team based in our Oxford offices.
The Role
To assist in the effective management of print and digital products throughout the publication process. This includes
liaising with Design and Production colleagues to ensure manuscripts are delivered on time,
preparing typescripts for production,
briefing and checking ebooks and reprints, and
other administrative duties.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Proofreading skills
Good working knowledge of Word and Excel
Knowledge of Biblio an advantage
Ability to learn and adapt to publishing systems and processes quickly
Exceptional organisational, time management and prioritisation skills
Ability to meet deadlines and handle competing priorities
Flexibility; ability to adapt to changing priorities
Stays calm under pressure
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a good visual ‘eye’
Good attention to detail

Strong problem-solving skills

Team player
Some prior publishing experience is an advantage
