We are looking for a well-organized and highly literate individual to join our busy Editorial team, working primarily to support Osprey Publishing, the leading illustrated military history publisher, and also its sister imprint, Shire Publications, which offers an eclectic mix of titles on nostalgia, history, culture and craft. The role is an ideal opportunity to learn about all stages of the publishing process.
In this role you will provide vital administrative support to the department, including screening and responding to manuscript submissions and enquiries from the public, managing the meetings processes for approving book proposals and covers, ordering and sending out complimentary copies to contributors, booking and contracting freelancers and maintaining accurate title and author information on the Biblio 3 title database. The role will also involve minute-taking at meetings and ad hoc project management support for editors including picture clearance, hard-copy artwork processing and some editorial and e-book checks.
You will work closely with editors in the department and key people in the Sales, Marketing and Production and Design teams ensuring that processes are followed, records meticulously kept and the publishing programme proceeds as smoothly as possible.
Skills, knowledge, and experience
∙ Great organizational skills, time management and ability to prioritize a complex workload
∙ Excellent verbal and written English language and communication skills
∙ Strong eye for detail and high standards
∙ IT competency, particularly with Word, Outlook, Excel and databases, and aptitude for learning new software
∙ Proactive attitude and professional manner
