Editorial Assistant
An exciting new in-house opportunity for a motivated individual with a passion for publishing and non-fiction books to join a mental health publisher based in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. This wide-ranging position will play a key role in supporting the Editorial and Production teams and is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in publishing.
Key Editorial duties
∙ Writing, proofreading and editing book manuscripts, blurbs, correspondence, blog posts and marketing copy
∙ Transcribing audio files into word documents for the Senior Copy Editor and Assistant Copy Editor
∙ Reading manuscript submissions and selecting those that would be a good fit for Trigger Press; forwarding manuscripts with potential to the Senior Copy Editor and Assistant Copy Editor
∙ Proofreading and editing on blogs, correspondence and manuscripts.
∙ Assisting the Editorial team in maintaining and growing a social media presence and developing a distinct voice within the publishing industry
∙ Liaising with authors and external contributors via phone and email
∙ Conducting market research
∙ Actively sourcing new manuscript submissions
∙ Undertaking general office duties if required
Experience / skills required:
∙ Excellent IT skills, including strong Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
∙ A proven ability to write, edit and proofread is essential. Candidates should be able to show examples of previous work that demonstrates these skills.
∙ Excellent time management and organisational skills, particularly the ability to manage own workload and prioritise accordingly
∙ Strong editorial skills and a good eye for detail
∙ The ability to work on your own initiative and solve problems
∙ Education to degree level or equivalent is desired, but not essential∙ Prior experience in editorial or publishing is desired, but not essential
∙ Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
∙ A passion for, and knowledge of, the publishing industry will be an advantage
∙ An interest in, or awareness of, mental health issues will be an advantage
