Hay House is looking for an experienced editor to join its busy West London office. Hay House specializes in non-fiction, personal development and mind, body, spirit books, digital products, online courses and live events. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in an editorial role with a trade publisher. This role is within our online course team, and primarily involves the editorial planning and creation of content for our exciting, informative and practical online video courses, although there will be involvement with frontlist titles too. The role:
Planning online course content, attendance at shoots (typically three days every other month; may involve travel outside London) and inputting into decisions about course content, structure and look while on set.
Reviewing post-production edit to suggest cuts, corrections and structural and stylistic changes to enhance the look and accessibility of the course.
Creating exciting additional course material (practical worksheets and audio content): developing ideas with the author, briefing design work and managing editorial content.
Writing engaging, relevant and informative copy for all aspects of online course promotion, and other marketing projects when required; also copy checking for all departments as needed.
Checking and correcting internal book proofs at various stages of the editorial process, ensuring consistent application of house style.
Overseeing production of spring and autumn catalogues. You:
You will be an experienced book editor with excellent verbal and written communication skills, a keen eye for detail and a strong visual sense. You are creative, you know what makes a subject unique and exciting, and you can deliver high-quality, engaging content. A demonstrable ability to write engaging copy for different purposes and a variety of platforms is essential. You will be working across multiple projects so must be proactive, able to prioritise a wide and varied workload, and work both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative and flexible way. You will be proficient in InDesign and have experience of on-screen layout editing. Previous experience of working with video content and/or knowledge of the mind, body, spirit field would be advantageous.
