About the Job

Racing Post, a large sports media company, is looking for a Book Publishing Manager to manage the Racing Post Books Division, publishing annuals and one-off book titles, merchandise and managing the full chain of production from budgeting, sourcing and securing new titles, managing all aspects of the production process and overseeing the sales and marketing of titles via varied distribution routes. The position can be based from our offices either in Newbury, Berkshire or the South Bank, central London or partially from home with travel to these offices.
The Book Publishing Manager will manage all aspects of the department's activities including third-party print relationships, other third-party suppliers, internal stakeholders, external freelancers and a direct report team of two, including one freelancer.
Overall budget planning and management
Sourcing of new titles and opportunities to drive the division's overall success
Liaison with authors, including contract negotiation and completion
Project estimating, costing and scheduling
Guiding titles from delivery of raw script to final print and digital files (using project management individuals or internal resources)
Print buying
Liaising with authors and editorial, design, digital, sales and marketing colleagues
Overseeing external prepress and print suppliers
Working with other stakeholders to execute successful marketing campaigns
Managing all other aspects of a busy publishing department and key personnel
Experience in all aspects of book production
Print-buying experience
Experience of budgeting and management of a portfolio of titles
Existing management experience of leading small teams
Proven strong copy-editing and proofreading skills
Excellent organisational and time-management skills
Keen eye for detail
Experience in a B2C or possibly niche publishing environment
Confidence to liaise and lead with internal stakeholders and external suppliers
Some knowledge of book routes to market
A keen interest in, passion for, and understanding of horse racing, football and other sports and a desire to learn about all aspects of the sport.
