Academic Sales Manager, Europe (Full time, Maternity cover)

The Opportunity
Bloomsbury is looking for a maternity cover for the role of Academic Sales Manager. This role is responsible for selling Academic & Professional books to customers throughout Europe. They will manage both direct customer relationships, and the academic sales agents Bloomsbury employs in territory to grow sales as determined by the Export sales budget.

The Academic Sales Manager, Europe, forms an integral part of the Academic Sales team and will be expected to work across functions to maximise sales opportunities in the territory.

The role

•Achieve sales target growth for the defined territory as determined by the Export sales budget.
•Maintain and grow relationships across the customer base. Agree promotions with customers, submissions for catalogues and any other marketing plans. Present new books to customers.
•Identify and develop relationships with potential new customers.
•Negotiate prices and customer trading terms, reviewing terms regularly to ensure the best profit margin for Bloomsbury. Agree trading contracts with key distributors.
•Manage the various European sales agency relationships; ensuring agents have the necessary product information and tools to meet their sales goals. Engage in regular dialogue with sales agents to track progress and gather local market feedback.
•Deal with orders and queries from customers and work closely with the distribution centre. Regularly review the supply chain and make recommendations to the Head of Academic Sales and the Sales Operations team.
•Work with the Bloomsbury team (Marketing, Editorial, Export Sales) to ensure customers have all the necessary material and information to meet their sales goals. Co-ordinate the distribution of sales, marketing and publicity material to customers.
•Conduct competitive analyses and gather market data to channel back to Head of Academic Sales.
•Maintain and consistently improve product knowledge.

Skills, knowledge and experience

•Experience of selling products to, and developing relationships with, decision makers and budget-holders.
•Well-developed presentation skills, with experience of presenting to individuals and groups across a range of functions.
•A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
•Experience of using a CRM system such as Salesforce.
•Able to act proactively and with limited direct supervision, while at the same time recognising when matters need to be referred to more senior managers.

•The interpersonal skills necessary to develop and sustain effective relationships internally, and on behalf of the Company with external bodies and with its customers.
•Able to work accurately with detailed information.
•Strong analytical skills.
•Able to identify and highlight potential obstacles in achieving objectives and propose solutions where appropriate.
•Possesses a high level of resilience and drive, able to be flexible and change direction as required.
•A high level of organizational skills.
•The ability to assimilate large volume of information, and then to disseminate it to key stakeholders.
•German speaking an advantage.
