About the Job

Non-fiction Commissioning Editor (Parental Leave Cover)
We are looking for an energetic and motivated commissioning editor to join our team. This is an exciting time to join The History Press following our relocation to Cheltenham and this role provides a great opportunity to help shape a developing list.
Key responsibilities:
Manage an existing list of titles from delivery to publication
Commission new titles and re-imagine backlist titles in line with the agreed strategy and budget for the list
Evaluate and develop manuscripts
Negotiate and draft contracts
Required attributes and experience:
Creativity
Commercial nous
Strong organisational and communication skills
Proven commissioning experience and editorial proficiency
Ability to work to budget and to deadlines
Good industry contacts
Understanding of the non-fiction market
This is a contract role to cover a period of parental leave. The company can offer part-time, flexible or remote working for the right candidate.
