1 What’s your company called?
Bertoli Mitchell LLP.
2 What services or products do you offer?
Since our partnership was formed in 1994 we have helped some 120 clients to sell publishing businesses, usually arranging transactions from end to end. Our services include preparing businesses for sale; valuation; developing negotiation strategies; identifying third parties to be approached; advice on transaction structuring; developing and managing information flows; price negotiation; co-ordinating due diligence reviews; and implementing transactions. We seek to help our clients achieve the best price, terms and strategic fit with the least disruption to their businesses.
3 How can you help IPG members?
Serving small to medium-sized publishing companies is the core of what we do. We pride ourselves on our understanding of owner-managed businesses and how to support them in sale. We have been privileged to achieve successful sales for some 30 members of the IPG.
4 What do you enjoy about working in publishing?
The people, their engagement with what they do and their collegiate relationship with their peers. Everyone in our team comes from a publishing background.
5 What do you think is the single biggest opportunity and the single biggest threat for independent publishers right now?
The biggest opportunity is the sheer speed of change in how people are working, learning and spending leisure time, and how new ways of focusing on niches can deliver scale very quickly. Perhaps the biggest threat is ‘the same but more so’: disintermediation, with the publisher’s place in the value chain under pressure.
6 What do you get out of belonging to the IPG?
