1 What's your company called?

Drumlin Security.

2 What services or products do you offer?

Secure, low cost, global distribution of PDF format books, magazines, newsletters and educational courseware to PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone and Android devices.

3 How can you help IPG members?

We provide very low cost and quick solutions for publishers who wish to sell their existing and new PDF content in a secure manner without any set-up costs, software licensing or special development. Our solutions are particularly good for larger and more complex books with tables and / or images, like reference books, textbooks, manuals and guides. We encrypt standard PDF files with our own security software and services, ensuring they are displayed correctly with formatting, fonts, colours and images retained. We can add extra functionality if required, like hyperlinks, navigation / outline trees and more. Publishers can use our free software to do this themselves, and even distribute the secured PDFs from their own website, with little or no special software. Once secured the files are protected from decryption and have our UK-hosted DRM service to provide protection against piracy and tracking of usage, with optional controls on printing and dates of use. Both offline and online solutions are available, depending on publishers' requirements and the needs of their customers.

4 What do you enjoy about working in publishing?

Although we are a technology business, we started out nearly ten years ago doing semi-traditional publishing of academic textbooks. We then developed our own proprietary solutions for PDF distribution, having been frustrated by the cost and complexity of Adobe-based solutions. Many of our customers are what might be described as non-traditional publishers, but all are focused on delivering their valuable content in the most secure and cost-effective way. Without exception, all of them have been a real pleasure to work with.

5 What do you think is the single biggest opportunity and the single biggest threat for independent publishers right now?

Amazon, on both counts! The ability to publish in multiple media across multiple channels, with maximum speed and low unit cost, is another big opportunity.

6 What do you get out of belonging to the IPG?

The IPG provides us with valuable and up to date information, a range of focused events and brilliant UK-based visibility.
