5. World Book Day 2010: Thursday 4 March
There will be a new element to next year’s World Book Day campaign, based on encouraging adults to give books to each other. Over 4 days around World Book Day The Times and The Sun will be offering ‘Buy One, Give One Free’ vouchers to be exchanged in high street bookshops. Any consumer with a News International voucher who buys one book at full price in a participating bookshop can then choose any paperback worth up to £10.00 for free. Children’s books and reference books will be excluded (there will be a separate promotion for Children’s books). Bookshops can opt in to join the promotion. WH Smith and Waterstones have signed up and independent booksellers will be invited to opt in at New Year. Booksellers and publishers will split the cost of the ‘free’ book, and the publisher’s share will be charged back item by item either direct or via the wholesalers. If a publisher chooses to opt out then the retailer bears the full cost of the book. Information will be available in the New Year for those publishers who want to opt in to this campaign. www.worldbookday.com

8. International sales data
Following our very successful autumn seminar on international trade, the IPG is discussing with Nielsen whether they can provide a new service, supplying international sales data to members. This would be based on the existing BookScan BOSS service, but covering international markets that may be of interest to members. Will you tell us what international markets and areas of interest you would like sale data for and if you would be interested in such a service? We’d be grateful if you would answer the 5 questions on the link below.
