The IPG represents members’ interests and gives them a voice in the industry.
With larger conglomerates becoming more powerful in the book industry, the IPG’s role in representing independent companies has never been more important. The IPG’s board and executive actively promote the interests of its members and express their concerns where suitable. It is a strong and influential voice in the industry.
The IPG represents independent publishers on these industry bodies and forums:

· E4Books Steering Committee
· Publishing Export Group
· Digital Content Forum

Much of our work is low profile, but rest assured that the IPG is working hard at all levels of the industry for the benefit of its members—and where appropriate, we tackle issues in a more visible and vocal fashion. Members are encouraged to share their concerns or ideas about any issues. The IPG’s Board meets six times a year and is happy to consider input from members and help with advice or action where it can.
The IPG has been especially active in monitoring and influencing developments in the digital environment. As electronic resources and commerce become more important and overtake print books in importance in some sectors, the IPG makes sure that the interests of independent publishers are represented and that members are kept up to date with advances.
The IPG will also make an impact in the industry via its new annual Independent Publishing Awards. Run in association with The Bookseller and the London Book Fair, these will celebrate and publicise the very best that the independent publishing sector has to offer. Awards will be given from 2007 for trade, academic, children’s and educational publishers, as well as for innovations and multicultural initiatives.
